Create a Checkout Link from Shopify POS

You can create a Checkout Link straight from the Shopify POS app — no need to switch over to your store admin. Build the cart at the counter, tap Create Link, and POS gives you a short URL and a QR code your customer can scan or open on their phone to finish checkout themselves.

It's the fastest way to turn a POS cart into a sharable link.

When to use it

  • The customer wants to think about it — Hand them the QR code so they can buy later from their phone

  • You don't have the item in store — Build the cart, send the link, ship it to their home

  • Markets, pop-ups, and trade shows — Take orders without a card reader; the customer pays themselves

  • Phone, DM, or WhatsApp orders — Drop a link instead of a draft order

  • Curbside or appointments — Hand over a QR before the customer leaves

Set it up

There's nothing to install separately — the Create Link tile ships with Checkout Links. To enable it, add the tile to a POS device:

  1. Open the Shopify POS app and sign in

  2. On the home grid, tap Add tile (or the edit icon, then Add tile)

  3. Choose App and pick Checkout Links > Create Link

  4. Save the layout

Repeat on each device that should be able to create links. The tile is greyed out when the POS cart is empty.

How to create a link from POS

  1. Add items to the POS cart as you normally would

  2. Tap the Create Link tile on the POS home screen

  3. Review the cart in the modal — products, quantities, discounts, and any attached customer or note all carry over

  4. (Optional) Tap any line item to change the variant, quantity, selling plan, discount, or line item attributes

  5. (Optional) Toggle One time use so the link can only be used once (it's on by default)

  6. (Optional) Toggle Send link via email to email the link automatically. If the cart has a customer attached, their email is pre-filled — you can edit it

  7. (Optional) Toggle Pre-checkout page to show a landing page before checkout (with an optional Callout message and Upsells)

  8. Tap Create link

  9. A QR code and short URL appear — show the QR for the customer to scan, or copy the link and send it

What carries over from the POS cart

  • Products and quantities — Every line item in the cart, with its quantity

  • Per-line discounts — Percentage or fixed-amount discounts on individual items

  • Order discounts and discount codes — Cart-level discounts apply to the link too

  • Selling plans — Subscription or pre-paid plans set on a line item

  • Line item attributes — Custom properties attached to items

  • Customer — If a customer is attached to the POS cart, the link is tied to that customer and pre-fills their info at checkout

What the customer sees

When the customer taps the link or scans the QR, they go straight into checkout — same items, same discounts, same totals as the POS cart. If a customer was attached, their name, email, and address are pre-filled. They pay on their own phone, and the order shows up in your store like any other.

If you turned on the pre-checkout page, the customer first sees a short landing page (with your optional callout and upsells) and then taps through to checkout.

Attribution and reporting

Every link created from POS is tagged automatically so you can see where the order came from:

  • Source: pos

  • Medium: the location name (or in-store if no location is set)

  • Campaign: the staff member's name

These show up in your link stats and in any analytics tool that reads UTM tags (Shopify reports, GA4, Klaviyo).

Tips

  • The link is a snapshot — It reflects the POS cart at the moment you tapped Create link. Editing the POS cart afterwards doesn't change the link

  • One time use is on by default — The link expires after the first successful purchase. Turn it off if you want a link that can be used many times

  • Custom POS line items aren't supported — Items must have a real product variant. Fully custom POS line items are skipped

  • Use the pre-checkout page for upsells — Turn on Upsells to show recommended products (based on the cart) or specific products you pick before the customer hits checkout

Requirements

  • Checkout Links installed on your store

  • Shopify POS app on iPhone, iPad, or Android

  • A staff role with access to the POS cart
