Shopify POS doesn't let you pick a fixed selling plan at the counter — so deposits, pay-later plans, and other Downpay purchase options are out of reach for in-store sales. Checkout Links bridges the gap. Build the cart in POS, switch the line item to a Downpay selling plan, and hand the customer a link or QR code so they can finish the deposit checkout themselves.
Why this is needed
Downpay adds selling plans (deposits, split payments, pay-later) to your products. The customer picks one at checkout. Shopify POS only supports one-time purchases natively, so even when a product has Downpay options, staff can't select them at the register.
Creating a Checkout Link from POS lets you set the selling plan after the cart is built, then hand off to the customer's phone — or to their email — to complete the deposit.
Before you start
Checkout Links and Downpay are both installed on your store
Your products have Downpay selling plans configured
The Create Link tile is added to your POS home grid (see Create a Checkout Link from Shopify POS)
Sell a Downpay deposit from POS
In Shopify POS, add the product to the cart as usual
Tap the Create Link tile
In the modal, find the line item — it shows One-time purchase by default
Tap Edit on the line item
Choose the Downpay selling plan you want — for example Deposit Only, Due at Checkout
Tap Done
(Optional) Attach a customer to the POS cart first so their email and address are pre-filled
(Optional) Toggle Send link via email to email the link straight to the customer
Tap Create link
You'll get a QR code and a short URL. Show the QR for the customer to scan, or the link is sent to their inbox if you toggled the email option.
What the customer sees
When the customer opens the link, they go straight to checkout with the Downpay selling plan applied. The checkout shows what's due today and what's due on fulfillment. If you attached a customer in POS, their name, email, and shipping address are pre-filled.
What's set automatically
Selling plan — Locked to the Downpay plan you picked
Usage limit — One use, so the link can't be reused or shared
Attribution — Source: pos, Medium: location name, Campaign: staff name. Visible in your link stats and in any tool that reads UTM tags
Combine it with
Send link via email — Email the deposit link from POS instead of (or alongside) the QR code
Pre-checkout page — Add a callout or upsells before checkout for added context on the deposit terms
Tips
The link is a snapshot of the POS cart at the moment you tapped Create link — change the cart afterwards and the link won't update
If a product doesn't show a selling plan in the editor, it doesn't have one configured in Downpay — add it there first
The link's name follows the pattern POS Cart for {Customer} {Date}, so it's easy to find later in the Checkout Links dashboard
