Usage Limit

Updated yesterday

Toggle Usage Limit on to control how many times your link can be used. This prevents abuse and creates scarcity for exclusive offers.

Limit Types

General Limit (Once Total)

The link can only be used for one successful purchase, period. After that, it's deactivated for everyone. Great for giveaways, contest prizes, or truly one-of-a-kind offers.

Customer Limit (Once Per Customer)

Each customer can only use the link once. Other customers can still use it. Perfect for welcome discounts, first-purchase offers, or loyalty rewards.

Adding the Checkout Rule for Customer Limits

For customer limits to work, you need to add the Checkout Links validation rule in your Shopify admin:

  1. Go to Settings > Checkout

  2. In the Checkout section, click Checkout rules

  3. Click Add rule

  4. Select the checkout rule provided by Checkout Links

  5. Choose the settings you want for that rule

  6. Optional: if you want checkout to stop when the rule errors, deselect Allow all customers to complete checkout

  7. Click Save

  8. Click Turn on

You only need to do this once β€” after the rule is active, it applies to all links with usage limits enabled.

How It Works

Usage limits are enforced at checkout via a Shopify checkout validation function. When a customer tries to complete their purchase, the system checks whether the limit has been reached. If so, the checkout is blocked with a message explaining the link has been used.

Resetting Limits

Click Clear usage limits to reset the per-customer tracking. This allows all customers to use the link again β€” useful if you want to re-run a campaign with the same link.
