Promotions

Updated today

The Promotions section lets you auto-apply discounts, free gifts, and free shipping when a customer uses your link. Toggle it on to configure.

How Promotions Work

Promotions (except discount codes) are applied automatically at checkout through the Checkout Links discount function. The customer sees the discount reflected in their cart and checkout — no coupon code needed.

The discount function must be enabled in your Checkout Links settings for promotions to work. Discount codes are the exception — they use Shopify's native discount system and work regardless of this setting, as long as they're enabled on the Checkout Links sales channel.

Adding a Promotion

Click Add promotion to create a new promotion tier. Each promotion has two parts: a condition and one or more discounts.

Conditions

Set when the promotion applies:

Condition

Description

No threshold

Applies regardless of cart size

Cart quantity is between X and Y

Applies when the cart has a specific number of items

Cart value is between X and Y

Applies when the cart total is within a range

If using discount codes, make sure they're active and available to the Checkout Links sales channel

Discount Types

Under each promotion, click Add discount to choose:

  • Order discount — Percentage or fixed amount off the order (e.g., 15% off)

  • Free shipping — Waive shipping costs

  • Free gift — Add a complimentary product. Single-variant gifts auto-add; multi-variant gifts show a picker on the pre-checkout page

  • Discount code — Auto-apply an existing Shopify discount code

You can stack multiple discount types in a single promotion (e.g., 15% off + free shipping).

Tiered Promotions

Add multiple promotions with escalating conditions to encourage larger carts:

Promotion

Condition

Discount

#1

Cart quantity 2–4

10% off

#2

Cart quantity 5–9

20% off + free shipping

#3

Cart quantity 10+

30% off + free shipping + free gift

On the pre-checkout page, customers see which tier they've reached and what they need to unlock the next one.

Tiered promotions are great for pre-checkout pages and abandoned cart links — for example, you can offer different incentives depending on the abandoned cart value.

Use the copy icon on a promotion to duplicate the previous tier as a starting point for the next one
